Introduction
At The Austin Stone, the health and well-being of our staff is of utmost importance. These guidelines are designed to provide guidance on what to do if you don't feel well, whether it's due to COVID-19, the flu, a cold, sinus infection, or any other illness. We prioritize the safety and health of our staff and are committed to preventing the spread of illness within our workplace.
Self-Assessment
If you don't feel well, it is crucial to conduct a self-assessment to determine the nature and severity of your symptoms. Common symptoms may include fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, congestion, or any other signs of illness.
COVID-19 Specific Considerations
If you experience symptoms consistent with COVID-19, such as fever, cough, loss of taste or smell, or difficulty breathing, please take a test and isolate yourself.
Reporting Illness
If you believe you are too unwell to perform your job or that coming to work might jeopardize your health or the health of others, you should report your illness to your immediate supervisor as soon as possible. If you were around other staff or at a work event while you were contagious, please also inform those staff that may have been exposed to your illness.
Staying Home
If you don't feel well due to any illness, including the flu, cold, sinus infection, or other contagious ailments, you are expected to stay home to prevent the spread of the illness. Do not come to the workplace until you are symptom-free and no longer contagious.
Communicate with Your Supervisor
You should keep your supervisor informed about your health status and the expected duration of your absence.
PTO: Sick Leave
If you need to take sick leave, you can enter it into UKG. You can take sick leave for your own illness or for the care of an immediate family member who is sick.
Seek Medical Advice
If your symptoms are severe, persist, or worsen, or if you are in doubt about your condition, seek advice from a medical professional. Follow their recommendations for treatment and recovery.
Remote Work
In some cases, when possible, you may be able to work remotely during your illness, provided your job allows for remote work and you feel well enough to do so.
Return to Work
Before returning to the workplace after an illness, you should be symptom-free for a specified period, as advised by a healthcare professional.
Hygiene and Prevention
Regardless of your illness, always practice good hygiene, including frequent handwashing, wearing a mask if necessary, and maintaining physical distance from others. This helps protect you and your colleagues from potential illness.
Support and Understanding
We understand that illness can be challenging, and we are committed to supporting our staff during such times. Please communicate with HR if you require any special accommodations or assistance.
