Background (why)

In the spring of 2023, our church conducted an employee engagement survey with Best Christian Workplaces Institute (BCWI). Through this survey, we learned of several key areas where our organization can aim to be a church full of joyfully devoted disciples.

Goals and Outcomes (what)

In this initiative, we desire to increase our employee engagement, as measured by the BCWI Engagement Survey. We desire to to achieve improvement in the key areas defined by the Engagement Survey as:

  1. Healthy Communication

“In organizations, communication is effective when leaders involve employees, seek for and act on their suggestions, explain reasons behind decisions, and create an environment of open dialogue. Organizations who practice Healthy Communication value diversity, and experience an environment of mutual accountability, innovation and unity.” - BCWI Flourish Model

  1. Life-giving Work

“...work that is full of meaning and has significance or purpose that is life-giving. In other words, work is inspirational when staff are devoted to their role, are able to utilize their skills and spiritual gifts, and as a result, love working in the organization. BCWI research shows that it is one of the top two most important predictors of employee engagement across all sectors! When work is life-giving, engagement is strong and often employees can’t even imagine doing any other kind of work or working at any other organization.” - BCWI Flourish Model

  1. Uplifting Growth

“At BCWI, we see that the purpose of Uplifting Growth is to improve the performance of individuals, groups and the organization overall to meet the challenges of a changing world. Most significantly, growth comes from job-related experience, along with interaction with others (managers, mentors and coaches), and from formal education events. Learning new things increases an employee’s engagement and allows the organization to maintain and improve its effectiveness.” - BCWI Flourish Model
